Production designer Erika Walters, an LQAF Scholarship winner, is living in Los Angeles and has been working on projects such as Ariana Grande‘s ‘Right There‘ Music Video and a commercial for DIESEL.
A narrative piece she designed called ‘WINTER LIGHT‘, shot in Montana last February, played at the Palm Springs International 2015 ShortFest In this film, she again partnered with the director (Julian Higgins) and cinematographer (Andrew Wheeler) from her thesis film ‘THIEF‘, which became an official selection at ShortFest 2011 and was awarded the Gold Medal by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the 38th Student Academy Awards. She’s hoping WINTER LIGHT does just as good in the festival circuit, and early indications are very positive!
“At its heart, WINTER LIGHT is a modern-day Revisionist Western – a complex moral tale about the battle between darkness and light waged in the wilderness of the human soul.” WINTER LIGHT, produced by Abigail Spencer, is a project of Pasadena Arts Council’s EMERGE Fiscal Sponsorship Program.
WINTER LIGHT has been accepted and won at many film festivals, including being “crowned as the festival’s New Hampshire Film of the Year.” Most notably at the LA Shorts Fest, it was awarded the top prize of the festival – the “Best of Fest” Award! And because this particular prize is recognized as a qualifying award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, WINTER LIGHT is now officially in the running for an Oscar. This means it has not been nominated yet, but it has been accepted into the pool of movies that the academy nominates from!
