The Blue Hour they sometimes call it, l’heure bleue – the ribbon of darkness between the false dawn and the true, always blacker than all the rest of the night has been before it.”
What and when is the Blue Hour?
A bit of a misnomer, as it is actually not an hour long – it is the time before sunrise and after sunset, neither full day nor full night, where blue becomes the predominant color hue of the skies and the light that falls onto the earth. It is known for its quality of light, and has long been the object of color photographers who are looking to capture that atmospheric and magical moment. Martin Barnes, a curator of an exhibit in London in 2006 based on twilight
writes “The magic moment of twilight […] is an area of contemporary art where emotion and romanticism still have great currency.”
Dust off your tripods, bring out your cameras and enter the desert land and cityscapes ready to capture the Blue Hour. Just keep in mind, that, when it comes to photographing this particular subject matter, it is all about timing. There is no limit as to what you can photograph (portraits, landscapes, flora, cities, etc) with the exception of the time of day – in this case you have two options. LIMIT THREE IMAGES PER ENTRANT

Most of the paintings are Oils on Canvas or Board. Some of the Canvases are stretched by the artist on self-made concaved shaped bars providing the illusion of depth to the painting. The Oils are mostly applied with brushes and sometimes with pallets or fingers, arms and other body parts.
Occasionally, other material is added, such as wood, papier-mâché, and other mixed media to provide with the “third dimension” to the two dimensional art pieces.
Obviously, some of the paintings are painted on various types of paper as well, with different media such as Oils, Acrylics and watercolors.
Sizes range from 8”X10” to 48”X60” and up.
Most of the drawings are Charcoal and Dry Pastels on Art Paper (pastel, charcoal or watercolor paper). The Charcoals and Pastels are mostly applied by fingers, arms and other body parts, sometimes with brushed and other instruments.
Some drawings are inks drawn/painted on various types of paper and other drawings are mixed media, with prints, watercolor, paper, inks, pastels and charcoals incorporated into the drawing.
Sizes range from 8”X10” to 36”X48”.

All images must be in JPEG format, RGB or Grayscale mode, 72ppi. Images and captions may not include watermarks, text, logos, borders or other identifying marks. Color space should be sRGB.

Master of trumpet and flugel horn, Steve Madaio has lived the life most musicians dream of. Along with David Sandborn, he perfomed on stage at Woodstock with the Butterfield Blues Band. Madaio toured and recorded with the legendary Janis Joplin, and enjoyed two world tours with the Rolling Stones. Additionally Steve has toured and recorded with Stevie Wonder, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Madonna and Barbara Streisand to name but a few. As one of the most sought after recording session side men Steve has contributed to hundreds of artists albums. No doubt some of these are in your music collection. Steve is joined by Bobby O’Connor on keyboard, and HL Miller percussion and vocals. Bring your danncing shoes as Steve and Friends will be swinging till the Festival closes, then take home Steve’s just rleased CD “Slices”.

Milton Merlos Jr. was born in Boston, MA. At the age of 12 his love for the guitar was ignited and born, and by the age of 16 he was performing as a professional musician. Later Merlos traveled to Spain where he fell in love with Spanish Flamenco guitar, and that experience fueled his passion and sparked his commitment to the honored tradition of Flamenco!
Oscar Reynolds, Karumanta Music

With a professional career of over 40 years in music, Bolivian-born artist Oscar Reynolds recently received honors from the Bolivian government for his lifetime achievement in music and dedication in developing, performing, and promoting Bolivian music in Bolivia and around the world. Reynolds, of Quechua Indian and Irish ancestry, first picked up a guitar at the age of 12 and although obtaining a law degree in 1987, decided to devote his life to his native music. He has shared the stage with Chuscales, one of today’s leading flamenco guitarists, and notable Peruvian artists such as singer Cecilia Barraza, Susana Baca’s bassist David Pinto, and Perú Negro’s Lalo Izquierdo, among others. His latest collaborative project with Lalo Izquierdo and the California Academy of Sciences was commissioned by the Creative Work Fund Grant for Traditional Arts. Oscar has eight full-length albums to his credit under his own independent label Karumanta Music. ‘Karumanta’ in Quechua, means “We have come from far away.” Be transported to a distant place and time listening to Oscar’s melodic pan pipes and soothing acoustic guitar.
