An Artist Reception will be held on Monday, December 15, 2008 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm for the participating artists at the Palm Desert Community Gallery.

Plein Air is a collaboration between The City of Palm Desert Public Art Department, La Quinta Arts Foundation, The City of La Qunta Museum, and La Quinta Arts Foundation. All Plein Air events are offered free to the public.

Derived from the French phrase en plein air, plein air artists leave their studios to paint outside. Although it is a familiar concept today, it was revolutionary when it began in the late 1800s. Founding members of this art movement include Claude Monet, Camille Pissaro, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, of the famed Impressionist group.

Plein Air will move to La Quinta for ONE DAY ONLY on Saturday, January 10, 2009 with two popular public events:
Paint Out – 8 am to 12 noon at La Quinta Resort & Club, 49499 Eisenhower Dr., La Quinta. This is an opportunity for spectators to watch their favorite plein air artists paint on location on the beautiful ground of this historic hotel.
Artist Reception and Wet Paint Sale – 1 pm to 3 pm at La Quinta Museum, 77-885 Avenida Montezuma. Call 760-564-1244 or 760-777-7090.
