Three cheers for Marge Dodge – LQAF Member, Home Host, and Volunteer Co-Chair!

We are delighted to spotlight Marge and express our gratitude for her valued support of La Quinta Arts Foundation.

How did you learn of La Quinta Arts Festival?
My husband and I discovered the La Quinta Arts Festival in 2000 while on an exploratory trip from Oregon to find a winter home. We were on our way to Baja California when we stopped in the Palm Springs area and quite accidentally attended the Festival. I said to my husband, who had a wholesale art framing business, “Any community that celebrates artists is a place I want to be.” We never made it to Baja and bought a home in La Quinta. We have never regretted our choice.

Why do you love being a volunteer at La Quinta Arts Festival?

At La Quinta Arts Festival I enjoy volunteering as co-chair of west ticket sales. I like this position because I am always busy and I interact with other volunteers and patrons. I began volunteering for the Festival in 2001 as an ambassador, then as chair of the ambassadors.

For the last ten years, I’ve volunteered as co-chair of west ticket sales.  Over the years, the job of selling tickets has become much easier with new technology. Originally, we only sold tickets at one gate and accepted cash only. Now we sell at two gates, accept credit cards, provide the purchase of tickets on-line, and each cashier has a tablet computer that allows for faster and more accurate transactions. It also helps that the Foundation staff is so knowledgeable and supportive.

What do you enjoy about the Home Hosting program?
Home Hosting has also been a wonderful way to volunteer for the La Quinta Arts Festival. Over the years I have met some wonderful, creative artists. I am still in contact with some artists on social media. I have never had a negative experience in home hosting and I highly recommend it.
