Spring is springing. In some parts of the country. Here in the desert, some of our human snowbirds are starting their journey back north as it is getting hot down here already. In other regions of this large country, snow is still falling. Temperatures are biting cold and many look out the window aching to feel the warmth of the spring sun upon their face. To see the stem of flowers pushing through the hard cold ground. To throw open windows and breathe that fresh scent of life.
This month’s photo contest is about Spring and your associations with it; flowers, budding trees, outdoor activities, spring cleaning; in the desert, there are blooming flowers and dusty washes that look more luminescent green then before. There has been talk of what baby ducklings are called – a few have been spotted in the cove of La Quinta where the foundation is based – a direct link to the fact that we are on the back end of winter.
Spring is associated with love, with fresh starts, morning dew, with puddles left over from the melted snow into which we should be joyfully springing into. The birds are making homes, and the promise of shedding one’s old skin and taking off the thick musty winter coats that have inhibited for too long is in reach.
Let your camera and your photographic eye do the talking about what it is that you will do and take in this spring. Hour to photograph is between 7 and 8 am.
“It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want—oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!” Mark Twain
“Always it’s Spring and everyone’s in love and flowers pick themselves.” E.E. Cummings
