The Open Desert Music and Photographic Arts Showcase will take place at the Annenberg Theater, Palm Springs Art Museum on May 7, 2016 at 8pm.
This one-night only event will feature an eclectic array of some of the desert’s brightest musical talent: Drum Hall, Tribesmen, Caxton, and Mike Pygmie Ensemble. Featured along with each band will be a photography exhibition that showcases imagery aligned to the theme “Open Desert.” Images selected within this exhibition will be screened as a large-scale slideshow projection, creating a synergy of sight & sound as each band takes the stage.
Exclusive to VIP ticket holders, a pre-reception will take place on the same evening at 7 p.m. within Palm Springs Art Museum’s Atrium. This VIP pre-show reception is sponsored by Coachella Valley Brewing Company, whose fine craft beers will be served along with tasty snacks and a curated selection of music.
Bart Aldrich, a regular exhibitor at Art Under the Umbrellas and La Quinta Arts Festival, will be showing his photography artwork at the event. Bart takes inspiration from a wide range of visual sources to create lasting images for their vibrant colors and intimate details. He strives for the dramatic interplay of light and composition to capture the essence of the moment. While travel & landscape photography remains the heart of his portfolio, his continuing experimentation across boundaries resulted in a process and style he calls “abstract photo-painting.”
Another familiar face will be Dean Mayo, whose photography will also be featured at the event. Says Dean, “In photography the two elements I try to master are focus and exposure. If I can convey those two elements correctly to the camera, hopefully I will get the picture I desire.”
Moreover, La Quinta Arts Foundation Scholarship Winners are also involved: Four-time LQAF Scholarship Winner Julio Vazquez is participating and Scholarship Winner Cristopher Cichocki is assisting with organizing the event. Cris’ artwork will also be on display. In February, LQAF Programs Coordinator Brittany attended Cris’ event ‘Circular Dimensions’ at the Annenberg Theater.
Cristopher Cichocki is an internationally recognized artist who lives and works in the Coachella Valley desert. He creates experimental multi-sensory installation environments utilizing artworks of intersecting media: painting, photography, sculpture, video, sound, light and installation. Cichocki has defined his practice as New Earth Art.
Past LQAF team members Christina Lange and Time Shockley have contributed their photography artwork as well to this special event.
It will be wonderful to celebrate the LQAF creative community!
