Crowd dancing at La Quinta Blues and Brews 2012 - dsc00103La Quinta Arts Foundation’s 6th Annual La Quinta Blues & Brews – which took place November 17, 2012 – drew over 1,800 enthusiastic blues music and craft beer devotees. Held at La Quinta Civic Center Campus, attendees enjoyed three live bands, and over 30 craft beers, with the addition of Stone Brewing, Hangar 24 and Goose Island brands, along with their knowledgeable representatives.

The Blues & Brews Food Court featured fare from Fisherman’s Market & Grill with their famed fish and chips, and mahi mahi sliders and tacos heading the menu. The event welcomed for the first time West Coast Hofbrau BBQ serving up delicious selections including brats and kraut, BBQ pulled pork sliders, and smoked ribs. Also on site was Baja Louie’s Mexican Cantina and The Wine Rack.


Ray Goren and The Generation Blues Experience - La Quinta Blues and Brews 2012 - dsc00012Kicking off the music at 11 am was Ray Goren & The Generation Blues Experience. The 12 year old phenom wowed the crowd with his guitar, keyboard, and vocal prowess, clearly demonstrating his old soul “blues intuition.” Delivering a true multigenerational experience, young Goren was joined on stage by some of his “old timer” cronies which included Sammy Lee on harmonica and 78 year old blues guitarist Jamie Powell.


Rod Piazza and The Mighty Flyers - La Quinta Blues and Brews 2012 - still089Next up was the legendary Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers, whom La Quinta Arts Foundation was thrilled to welcome back, having previously performed at La Quinta Arts Festival. Accompanied by wife Honey on keyboards, veteran harp man Rod Piazza blew his rocking harmonica clear off the stage, venturing into the cheering crowd.

Headliners Teresa James & The Rhythm Tramps brought their distinctive mix of soulful blues and Texas attitude, performing several songs from their new album, “Come On Home,” plus old favorites including “24, 7, 365,” “I Do My Drinkin’ on the Weekend,” “Put the Squeeze on Me,” and “Sunday Shoes.”



“La Quinta Blues & Brews has become a ‘must do’ destination event for California blues music and craft beer fans,” proclaimed Christi Salamone, Executive Director of La Quinta Arts Foundation.
