Daryl Thetford (Chattanooga, Tennessee) meticulously layers fragments of digital photos (often more than 200) to create bold, painterly works on aluminum.

When capturing photographs, he actively looks for a variety of textures in his travels, found in old signs, weathered paint, and many other urban elements. The colors in all of his photographs originate from these subjects. He then poses people in various ways to set up not only collages, but creative stories.  Often the artwork focuses on the human interaction with metaphor and media.

His favorite composition to create is a cityscape. At La Quinta Arts Festival 2018, he won a Civic Purchase Award by the City of La Quinta. His commission is on view at the La Quinta Library Makerspace.
